1. Coastal Road Project:

The south-bound corridor of the coastal road between Worli and Marine Drive, also known as Mumbai Coastal Road Project Phase 1, in south Mumbai was inaugurated by Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde on Monday, March 11.

One of the most ambitious projects in Mumbai's infrastructure pipeline, the Coastal Road Project aims to connect South Mumbai with the western suburbs. Stretching over 29.2 kilometers, this coastal road will offer a scenic drive while significantly reducing travel time between key destinations.


2. Mumbai Metro Expansion: 

The Mumbai metro is designed to reduce the traffic in the city and supplement the overcrowded railway network. When completed, the Mumbai-metro will have 14 metro lines spanning across 350 kilometers. It will be a massive boost in connectivity and infrastructure. The estimated cost of the complete Mumbai Metro project is more than 1.4 lakh crores.

The metro rail project is comprehensive and connects to every nook and corner of the city. The line 1 running from Ghatkopar to Versova is operational since 2014. Here’s an overview of other metro lines and the areas they cover.

3. Navi Mumbai International Airport:

The Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to become a game-changer in the region's air connectivity. Once operational, it will not only reduce the load on the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport but also spur economic development in the surrounding areas.

The ambitious Navi Mumbai International Airport, also named as the DB Patil International Airport is one of the landmark projects for Navi Mumbai. It is a greenfield International airport constructed near to Panvel.

The overall cost of the project is estimated to be 16,700 crores. It will be capable of handling yearly traffic of 9 million passengers. The airport covers an area of 1,160 hectares.
The Navi Mumbai Airport will be operational by 2024 end or in the first quarter of 2025. The key real estate micromarkets that will benefit from the airport are Panvel, Ulwe, Kamothe, Kharghar and Taloja.

4. Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL):

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) on January 12, marking a historic milestone in India's infrastructure development. The 21.8-kilometre long bridge between Sewri in Mumbai and Nhava Sheva area in Raigad district will bring down the journey from the current two hours to around 15-20 minutes. It is also known as Atal Setu, honouring the late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

5. Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (Bullet Train):

In the realm of transportation engineering, India's ambitious strides are making headlines with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project. Pioneering a groundbreaking venture into underwater rail infrastructure, this project spans 7 kilometers between Shilphata and BKC, utilizing state-of-the-art techniques such as the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM).

Spearheaded by the Ministry of Railways, Communications, and Electronics & Information Technology, this visionary endeavor promises to revolutionize connectivity across the high-growth states of Gujarat and Maharashtra. Although primarily connecting Mumbai with Ahmedabad, the Bullet Train project will have far-reaching benefits for Mumbai. It promises to revolutionize travel, offering a swift and comfortable mode of transportation between the two major cities.

6. Water Transport Projects:

Mumbai's coastline presents a unique opportunity for water transport. Initiatives like the Mumbai-Goa RoRo service and the expansion of water transport networks within the city aim to reduce road congestion while providing a scenic and eco-friendly commuting option.

7. Samruddhi Mahamarg

The Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway stands as a testament to Maharashtra's commitment to progress and connectivity. Spanning an impressive 701 kilometers, this expressway not only links Nagpur to Mumbai but also facilitates smoother travel through various districts, embodying the state's vision for enhanced infrastructure.
Under the meticulous supervision of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the final 101-kilometer stretch, linking Igatpuri to Mumbai, is poised for operationalization by July 2024. This impending completion heralds a new era of seamless travel, promising enhanced economic growth and accessibility for the state.

8. Dombivli Mankoli Flyover

The Dombivli-Mankoli Bridge or Motagaon Mankoli Bridge is a crucial infrastructure project for people living in the Kalyan-Dombivli belt.

Currently, there are two routes from Dombivli to Mumbai. The first is from Dombivli-Mumbra-Thane-Mulund-NH3-Mumbai Fort. Second is the Dombivli-Kalyan-Bhiwandi-Bypass-NH3-Mumbai. Both routes are heavily congested. Travelling from Dombivli to Kalyan can take as long as 2 hours during peak traffic hours.

Hence, this bridge will ease the traffic issues and, most importantly, it will reduce the commute time from Dombivli to Thane to just half an hour. It will also reduce vehicular movement on the 2 longer routes.

The six-lane bridge is being constructed on the creek between Motagaon in Dombivli and Mankoli on the Bhiwandi side. This bridge will benefit 60 lakh people who travel via this route daily. The bridge will be operational in 2024.

9. Redevelopment of Railway Stations:

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on February 26, will lay the foundation for transformation of 554 stations under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.  This project is worth more than Rs 2,274 crore. Of these stations to be re-developed nationwide, 12 are under Mumbai suburban division namely Byculla, Chinchpokali, Diva, Shahad, Mumbra, Vidyavihar, Kurla, Matunga, Wadala Road, Sandhurst Road, and Igatpuri (outside suburbs).

This year, Maharashtra has been allocated a budget of Rs 15,554 crore and 56 stations in the state are to be developed as world class railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme. Of these 56 stations,12 stations on Central Railway’s Mumbai  Division are among those in for massive transformation and redevelopment.

10. Mumbai Metro Line 3

Phase I of Metro Line 3 between Aarey and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) is expected to open in April 2024.

The 33.5-km long Metro-3 running along Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ is the first underground metro corridor of Mumbai. It will connect the Cuffe Parade business district in the extreme south of the city to SEEPZ in the north-central area with 26 underground and one at-grade station.

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), responsible for the implementation of Mumbai Metro Line 3, commonly known as Aqua Line, has completed more than 90 per cent of the work on the first phase. It has already acquired all nine trainsets necessary for Phase 1 operations.

MMRC has further announced that Phase II (BKC-Colaba) is set to open in June-July.
